This happens when I hit highly-charged memories, often buried behind memory blocks. As the intense energy discharges, your system can integrate the emotions associated with it and self-regulate.

Yes. But. It's like ripping off an energetic band aid. You're now airing out the 'wound' and this can feel uncomfortable temporarily. The more you can lean into this process, the faster it passes and makes space for various benefits.
